The Students of Garnet 2, (Class 6B) presented an assembly to celebrate World
Literacy Day 2025. The assembly offered a well emphasised and engaging
exploration of the significance of literacy in the digital era, drawing on this year’s
UNESCO theme, “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”.
The program began with an introduction to World Literacy Day, highlighting its global
importance and historical roots. Students shared the thought for the day, featuring
Kofi Annan’s quote: “Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.,” and discussed its
deeper meaning, underlining how education opens doors to personal and social
transformation.
To further emphasize the importance of the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital
Era” and to highlight its relevance and necessity in rural India, a multi-scene skit
titled “Literacy: A Ray of Hope” was presented. The skit depicted real-life
challenges faced by illiterate individuals and showed how digital literacy is now
essential for employment and dignity. The story, inspired by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s
advocacy for education, also illustrated community upliftment through adult and
digital literacy programs. The skit’s closing message, delivered in unison,
emphasized literacy as a “ray of hope” in today’s world.
Following this, students recited the poem “The Gift of Literacy”, celebrating education
as the light of life. A group pledge to promote both traditional and digital literacy was
administered, reinforcing the assembly’s commitment to inclusivity and lifelong
learning. The program concluded with a prayer for equal opportunity in education
and a Bible reading from Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get
wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
The assembly was well-received by the school leadership. Teachers and students
commended the student participants for their thoughtful scripts, teamwork, and
effective communication.
